Ballymun Community Action Programme Our Work

Main Areas of Work
Community Action Programme Ballymun (CAP) has undergone a great deal of change over the 10 years of it's operation.  This change has resulted from our response to, or anticipation of, rapid changes in our working environment locally and nationally.  CAP’s work during this time is detailed in our Annual Reports for each year.  Our 1999 Annual Report is available here for Download and we can e-mail you a copy of our reports for any other year if you want to see them. To contact us Click Here

Our Aims and Objectives over the next 3-year period are the result of ongoing reflection on internal and external changes.  Our analysis is based on our consideration of the results of regular external evaluations of the work of CAP.  These were carried out by Liz Hayes in 1992, by Gráinne Healy in 1994 and by NEXUS Europe Research in 1997.  The full Management Committee also undertakes work review and planning sessions on an annual basis.

Over the next 3 years, will be prioritising our work around the following key “Theme Areas”:

Organisational Development and Management

Regeneration Work.

Local Development Work.

Policy Development Work.

National Networking.

Core Aims
We have divided our Aims along the lines of these five "Theme Areas" of work.  The major concerns for the local community at this time are reflected in our identification of the Regeneration of Ballymun and Policy Work as theme areas.

While we are listing these areas separately, we regard them as elements in a continuum between internal, local, national and international work that we plan to be involved in over the next 3 years.  Our Aims and Objectives for this work are outlined below.

Organisational Development and Management
CAP aims to pioneer new, effective, inclusive, appropriate and responsive forms of organisation and management that are consistent with our community development ethos and changing environment. For more detail    Click Here
Regeneration Work
CAP aims to support and resource the Ballymun community to effectively articulate it's needs in relation to the regeneration of the area, at the same time developing a model that can influence future developments nationally and internationally. For more detail   Click Here
local Development Work
CAP aims to respond to the needs of local groups in order to strengthen them in their work. We aim to develop new groups or activities as required to strengthen the voice of the community.  We aim to support new people to get involved in their community.  A key aim locally is to promote social analysis/political analysis in the area. We also aim to support groups to develop a policy dimension, based on their experience and practice, to their work. For more detail   Click Here
Policy Development Work
CAP aims to develop a model of work that opens up channels of influence for the Ballymun community to effectively influence decision-making processes locally, nationally and internationally. For more detail   Click Here
National Development Work
